Getting ready for a new Chapter

On the 18th I finally have insurance. Sadly I know I'll met my deductible fast, but I'm staying positive that this will give me much better care meaning less pain and more movement.

My left arm won't extend open all the way. The elbow keeps swelling up taking up to 75% of the arm movement away. Thankfully this doesn't hurt unless try to force my arm to open more, which I do several times a day because I want it to move. I saw a doctor at the clinic about two weeks ago for the arm and he prescribed prednisone. The is a funny thing we mean a prednisone. Small doses once in a while help a great deal, too much and prednisone does more harm then good. For some reason when my body thinks it has had too much of prednisone it will swell up, make me dizzy, and/or cause my heart rate to up. This does ended up being too close to the dose I was just on a few weeks prior to this...

I woke up on Saturday night with leg cramps. The cramps started in my right foot, so I pulled my leg up and put pressure down on my foot until the cramp stopped. Then later that night I was woke from a dead sleep with a bad cramp in the lower part of leg. I should have gotten up and walked around but I was very exhausted. Instead, I did my best to relax and took deep breaths until the pain stopped. I went back to sleep.

Sunday morning I woke with my lower right leg very sore and the back half pulled tight and bruised. Thankfully it was my day off, so I did little as possible and put my leg up. On Monday my leg felt better but my ankle was sore. As the day went on my ankle kept swelling and starting hurting even more. I tried putting moisturizer on my ankle and rubbing it to ease the pain and swelling. At home I put my ankle up and put the heating pad on it. When it was time for bed I put on icy hot and a sock.

By Thursday morning I could barely walk on my ankle when I woke up so I called the clinic. They got me in right away. After telling the same story to the doctor he became concerned that I might have a blood clot. (note I don't have insurance yet) He sent me to the hospital (lovely bill will becoming asking for high amounts again). Thankfully there was no blood clot found. The doctor told me my ankle will heal and get better.

Today, Friday, my ankle was extremely painful when I first woke up but got better through the day. I do have a sit down job thankfully as it starts to hurt after a bit of use. I can move my ankle up and down and side to side, but I get a painful pull or pinch all of a sudden that tells me to stop. Then the ankle with throb in pain for a bit after words.

I hope the ankle heels soon as there is much to get done. I feel a bit lazy sitting all the time, but it just hurts so much. The sitting really isn't too bad because I've also been tired a lot as well. I did call the clinic again today asking for suggestion on how dealing with the pain and/or swelling with the ankle but so far have gotten no reply.

Thank heaven I have a sit down job, but even that can be a bit much with the getting up to ask question and get paper work. I'm looking forward to the new insurance, hopefully the right treatment can fix or improve these problem. More energy would be nice too, but we will take it one step at a time. Even keeping up the blog seems like a lot of work. I enjoy writing but often find myself tired or not having enough time...leaving my family to pick up the slack that I leave behind as well.

  1. Ohh, you have my sympathy. It sounds so painful. I'm struggling right now with sciatica which makes walking or standing painful.

I hope they are able to come up with something besides the dreaded prednisone. A friend used to take that for scleraderma but the side effects were horrid.

  2. I have fibromyalgia, so I know how it is to struggle with pain and low energy. Keep writing, sweetie.
